Billing and Plans
LoreLedger offers a free tier and four paid plans. This guide explains what each plan includes, how to upgrade, and how to manage your subscription.

Plan descriptions
- Free — Create one basic character and join tables as a player. No world or campaign creation.
- Adventurer — Build a roster of up to 5 characters with rich details (race, class, level, pronouns, portrait). Join tables as a player.
- GM — Run campaigns from your own personal workspace. Create worlds, campaigns, tables, and lore entries. Create characters for others. Up to 20 characters with rich details.
- World Builder — Build expansive worlds with larger groups. Unlimited worlds, campaigns, tables, and characters.
- Club — Create named organisations for clubs and communities. Unlimited everything. Club-level overview dashboards.
What are "rich character details"?
Adventurer and above can add extra fields to characters: race/ancestry, class, level, pronouns, and a portrait URL. Free plan characters only have a name, summary, and description.
What is a "personal workspace"?
GM and above automatically get a personal workspace — a private organisation where you can create worlds, campaigns, and tables without needing a Club plan.
What is a "named organisation"?
Only the Club plan can create additional named organisations (clubs, communities). Everyone else works in their personal workspace or joins others' organisations.
How billing works
User-level billing
LoreLedger billing is user-level. Each user has one subscription (or the Free plan by default). Your plan determines:
- How many characters you can create
- Whether you get rich character details
- Whether you get a personal workspace
- Your world/campaign/table limits (if applicable)
- Your storage quota
The Owner's plan governs the organisation
For organisations, the Owner's plan determines the organisation's limits. If you own an organisation and upgrade, the organisation's limits increase.
Starting free
Every new account starts on the Free plan. You can create one character and join any table as a player. No payment required.
Upgrading your plan
- Click your profile in the top-right corner and go to Settings.
- Click Billing in the settings menu.
- You will see your current plan and available upgrade options.
- Click Upgrade on the plan you want.
- You are taken to a secure checkout page (hosted by Stripe) to enter your payment details.
- After payment, your plan is upgraded immediately.
Managing your subscription
Billing portal
To manage your subscription (change plans, update payment details, view invoices, or cancel):
- Go to Settings > Billing.
- Click Manage Subscription.
- You are taken to the billing portal (hosted by Stripe) where you can:
- Change your plan
- Update your payment method
- View past invoices
- Cancel your subscription
Changing plans
You can upgrade or downgrade at any time through the billing portal. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing period (for downgrades) or immediately (for upgrades).
Cancelling
If you cancel your subscription, it remains active until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account reverts to the Free plan.
When you revert to the Free plan, your existing content is not deleted, but you will not be able to create new content that exceeds the Free plan's limits until you upgrade again.
What happens at plan limits
When you reach a plan limit, LoreLedger will prevent you from creating more of that resource. For example:
- If your plan allows 1 character and you have 1, you cannot create another until you upgrade or delete one.
- If your file storage is full, you cannot upload new files until you free up space or upgrade.
You will see a message explaining the limit and suggesting an upgrade when this happens.
